Colon hydrotherapy or Colonic Irrigation as it is more commonly known is a safe, discreet, comfortable and painless procedure.

Although many people think it is a relatively new procedure colon lavage was first recorded 1500BC in the ancient Egyptian document Ebers Papyrus which dealt with the practice of medicine. These enemas were described as the infusion of aqueous substances through the anus.

An average of 3-5lbs of debris can be lodged in the colon and sometimes as much as 25lbs can be present (not including transient matter at any time)

TREATMENT PROCEDURE

 

Prior to initial treatment you will be required to fill out a questionnaire to establish lifestyle, state of health etc;

You will be shown to a private room which has sole use of its own toilet.

You will be asked to undress from the waist down and a towel is provided to protect your modesty at all times.

Warm filtered water is slowly introduced into the colon under very low pressure then allowed to flow out through a tube gently releasing accumulated fecal matter. A specific colonic massage routine is used to help the process.

Throughout the treatment the therapist is in the room with you unless you need a toilet break in which case you are given privacy.

The colonic procedure lasts usually 30-45 minutes depending on requirements.

The method used is a woods gravity system which only allows water to enter slowly by gravity.

The water used is passed through a triple filter with ultra-violet light to eliminate bacteria in the water and the temperature is controlled by the Therapist.

All the equipment used is disposable and the fixtures i.e bed, toilet etc; are sterilised before and after each treatment.

Six or less treatments may be enough to clean out a person with minor ailments but someone who has more symptoms or certain conditions may need more.

 

 

CONTRA-INDICATIONS TO COLONIC

 

There are medical conditions that prevent some people being suitable for colonic, these are;

*Severe cardiac disease/congestive heart failure

*Conditions with acute inflammation such as chron's. diverticulitis, ulcerated colitis

*Very high/low blood pressure

*Aneurysm

*Severe anaemia

*Gastrointestinal hemorrhage or history of perforation

*Severe haemorrhoids

*Cirrhosis

*Carcinoma of the colon or rectum

*Abdominal hernia or recent scare (less than 8 weeks)

*Recent colon or rectal surgery

*Renal insufficiency

*Severe prostate condition

*Fissures

*Fistula

*Severe gall stones

*Cancer of the liver

*Severe kidney stones

*History of long term steroid use

*Uncontrolled/severe diabetes

*Pregnancy before 8 months

 

BEFORE AND AFTER TREATMENT

 

Before treatment large meals and lots of fluids are not advised but equally an empty stomach is also not advised, eat a light meal a short time before you attend and it is helpful to hydrate your body by drinking about 8 glasses of water a day (one an hour) it is also helpful to consume lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Avoid coffee, alcohol and fizzy, sugary drinks. Instead have pure fruit juices or herbal tea. Reduce processed foods and salt.

After treatment you should most definitely be able to go about your usual routine and most people feel a sense of vitality, increased energy and mental clarity. However there are some who may feel tired , you may have a headache or hangover type feeling. This is largely due to to the removal of toxins. You may also feel cold afterwards so drink plenty warm water, herbal teas or soups.

The effects of your colonic may go on for 2-4 days after treatment and bowel movement may take a few days to return to normal. Use this time to give your digestion a break by eating foods easy to digest.

After colonic good foods to have are live natural bio-yoghurt, all vegetables (steamed or in soup) brown rice, porridge, quinoa and millet are rich in beneficial fibre and will help friendly bacteria in your gut as well as improve your transit.
